Kelly Clarkson is proud to be a working mom.
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” host and “The Voice” coach took to Twitter Thursday to defend her work-life balance after a social media troll said her “marriage didn’t work” because of Clarkson’s hectic schedule.
“Wow,” the mother of two tweeted. “Shaming a woman who has a great work ethic, is a great mom, and who steps up and fills in when a friends asks for a favor because that’s actually what ‘good old country girls’ do.”
The “American Idol” alum filled in for Simon Cowell on “America’s Got Talent” this week after the British star broke several parts of his back during an electric bike accident.
“I have waited years for this,” Clarkson marveled during the show Tuesday. “I love Simon but I am getting real used to this chair. I’m just saying, take your time. I can use another job.” While Clarkson received praise for quickly stepping in for her longtime friend, including Cowell himself, one social media user faulted Clarkson’s busy schedule for her divorce.
“Now Kelly is taking Simon’s place…no wonder her marriage didn’t work,” user @AnnieB64135937 tweeted Thursday. “Surprise she has time for her kids…not the good old country girl we fell in love with…it’s all about Kelly being on tv…and no one else.” The “Miss Independent” singer filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock in June after nearly seven years of marriage. They share daughter River, 6, and son Remy, 4.
Clarkson told the Twitter user that “this can’t be who you are deep down. I have more faith in your heart.” She concluded her message, “Aim higher please.” In 2019, Clarkson said her family remains her top priority despite taking on more work commitments.
“I love being busy,” Clarkson told People magazine. “The schedule is intense but I actually work really well under pressure.”
She continued: “When we were doing the schedule for the (talk) show, I was like, ‘I have to drop my kids off at school.’ And I’m always the one who puts them to bed. You just have to prioritize and juggle and make people know it’s an important thing. And don’t feel guilty about it.”
